Before Tim Allen changed his name it used to be Timothy Allen Dick. He was born in Colorado on June 13, 1952. He has 6 brothers. When Tim was only 11 his dad died in a car accident. After his dad's death Tim's mom packed up her family and moved them to Detroit Michigan suburb of Brimingham when Tim was only 13 years old. In school Tim's favorite subject was shop. Surprise, surprise! He was also the class clown, another surprise. He graduated from Western Michigan University in 1975 wiht a degree in Television production.
In 1978 Tim spent 2 years in jail because of dealing drugs. When Tim was released he had a new outlook on life. In 1979 Tim started a stand up Comedy career at the Comedy Castle in Detroit on a dare from a friend. Tim has been on some cable shows such as "Tim Allen: Men are Pigs", "Just for Laughs", "Comedy Club All Stars 2", and Comedy All Stars 7."
Allen's movie career started when he starred in the Disney film called "The Santa Clause." He played the role of Scott Calvin or Santa Clause. During Christmas Scott is taking care of his young son. Late at night Santa falls on the roof. Tim does not know but by putting on the suite he agrees to be Santa Clause.
In his next film "Toy Story" )a Disney animation) Tim played the voice of the space action figure Buzz Lightyear, who is new to Andy's toyroom. The boys favorite toy Woody played by Tom Hanks get jealous and fights with Buzz Lightyear which procceeds to knock them both out the window. The two have to overcome their differences in order to get back to Andy's room and along the way face many challenges.
Tim started working on "Jungle to Jungle" during the summer of 1996. Allen plays character "Micheal Cromwell" a stock broker in the middle of a divorce finds out he has a son Mimi-Siku.
Tim Taylor, Tim's role on "Home Improvment" as "man of the house", and "master of the garage." The Taylors have three sons who keep things hopping. Sometimes Tim forgets he is the dad and not an older brother. Take for instance Randy, the middle son who destroys his new bicycle by jumping off a five foot ramp him and his brothers build. While Jill is yelling at him Tim's only response is "how high and how far did you go??!!" But Jill is always there to keep him in line to the best of he abilities. Then there are Tim's two friends who share in his troubles "Wilson" his odd next door neighbor, and Al Borland. Tim's flannel covered assisstant on the show "Tool Time". Al assists Tim and good thing to because Tim is always goofing off and souping things up so they have "MORE POWER". In the end their is destruction and someone, normally Tim, ends up going to the hospital. Although Tim messes things up more often then not he usually comes through after, a confusing talk with Wilson, he finds the right thing to do or say. Bottom line though Tim loves his tools and his cars, but he loves his family and friends just as much. Well...almost anyway!
The need for speed is somewhat of an adiction for Tim on and off the show. He has always been a big fan of Motor Racing and an especilly big fan of Indy Races. "It's great to be there, going so fast, all you care about is getting around that never corner, shoving on the gas, getting around the next corner. Nothing else really matters at that point." Tim even has his own racing team Tim Allen/Saleen RRRRacing. Allen has taken part in many competitions over the years, but after a recent racing accident however Tim admits he is going for a little less racing power. However he will still continue to race.
Tim now lives with his wife and daughter in one of their two homes in Los Angeles and Detroit.
